Se describen como nuevas a Zinnia acerosa (DC.) A. Gray var. guanajuatensis y a Z. zamudiana de los estados de Guanajuato y Querétaro respectivamente. La primera difiere de la variedad típica en el hábito rastrero, en las cabezuelas más anchas y con mayor cantidad de flores, así como en aquenios casi completamente carentes de vilano. La segunda parece estar emparentada con Z. juniperifolia (DC.) A. Gray, de la que se distingue de manera notable en el hábito rastrero, más o menos almohadillado, en las cabezuelas sésiles o muy cortamente pedunculadas, al igual que en las lígulas que son conspicuamente más pequeñas y de color menos intenso.
