The states of Veracruz, Nuevo Leon, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Guerrero, Mexico, and Yucatan have, respectively, the highest number of species. Widely distributed species in the country are: Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa, Hemitrichia calyculata and Cribraria violacea. The myxomycetes of the tropical zone, despite their being poorly collected, represent 49% of the species known from México, indicating the potential richness of those ecosystems. |

Se presenta una lista de las especies y variedades de Myxomycetes registrados de México, desde 1892 hasta 1992. Esta está constituida por 187 especies y 2 variedades (37.4% del total mundial), en 34 referencias bibliográficas. La gran mayoría de las investigaciones realizadas sobre estos organismos en México, han sido a nivel de inventarios, pocas son taxonómicas y sólamente una es un estudio ecológico. Las entidades federativas de Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur y Sinaloa son las únicas sin registros de Myxomycetes. Veracruz, Nuevo León, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Guerrero, México y Yucatán, en orden de importancia, son las que más registros presentan. Las especies con mayor distribución en el país son Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa, Hemitrichia calyculata y Cribraria violacea. Las zonas tropicales, a pesar de que han sido menos exploradas, presentan 49% de las especies conocidas para México, indicando con ello la riqueza potencial de estos ecosistemas.
