Se diseñó una base de datos con la información do los especímenes de Scolytidae y Platypodidae depositados en cinco coleciones entomológicas nacionales. Se revisaron 19,474 ejemplares, de los cuales 93% fueron recolectados en México y se complementó la base con 558 registros bibliográficos de 350 especies, ausentes en la colecciones revisadas. La familia Scolytidae está constituida en nuestro país pni 827 especies, en tanto que Platypodidae agrupa 40 especies; de ellas, el 60 % y 45 %, respectivamente, se encuentran documentadas por las colecciones analizadas. Con la base de datos se elaboró un catálogo de las especies mexicanas de ambas familias Además de la información taxonómica, el catálogo incluye datos sobre distribución geográfica, huespedes, altitud y colección depositarla.
