Summary:This paper reports the diet results in 474 otter scats collected at Los Pescados river, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico, between December 1994 and August 1995. Considering the percentage of occurrence, the most important prey group were fishes (54.1%) and crustaceous (30.8%); other prey groups were insects (7.5%), reptiles (6.2%) and birds (1.4%). The most important prey species were Macrobrachium spp (crawfish), Agonostomus monticola, Cichlasoma meeki, and Sicydium gymnogaster (fishes). We found seasonal variation in the otter diet, considering the dry and the rainy season only.
