Omschrijving
Samenvatting:I studied aspects of reproduction in Cophosaurus texanus in the Central Chihuahuan Desert, Mexico. I collected 156 individuals (69 males, 87 females) from March to October of 1981 to determine timing and duration of reproductive cycle. To determine clutch size I examined 94 females collected during June and July over a period of four consecutive years (1978-1981). The reproductive cycle of females lasted five months, from April to August, with the highest number of gravid females ocurring in July. The reproductive cycle of males overlapped that of females, lasting from March to August. Mean clutch size was 4.2 eggs. Females were sexually mature less than 12 months after hatching. Clutch size is affected by female size (snout-vent length SVL) and by variation in rainfall patterns.
