| Zusammenfassung: | Governance has been described in many ways throughout its recent rise in popularity. This article seeks to contribute to these ongoing discussions by presenting the results of the research project “Multilevel governance and carbon management”, carried out in Mexico from 2014 to 2016 on behalf of the Center for International Forestry Research (Cifor). We combine results from this component of Cifor’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+ with two case studies in order to illustrate multilevel governance experiences promoted as a part of REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) early actions. We discuss the relationship between governance and governability while illustrating the innovations – as well as the obstacles – that these coordination initiatives between different levels of government and members of civil society face. |
