The subwatersheds with high percentage of agriculture and grasslands yield more surface runoff as well as more sediment yields. The evapotranspiration from the forestry subwatersheds were higher than agricultural subwatersheds. The water supply from the Tapalpa watershed is 42’963,900 m3 per year on average. |

Con la finalidad de aportar elementos para determinar la factibilidad de crear un mercado de servicios ambientales hidrológicos, se estimó el balance hidrológico en la cuenca forestal de Tapalpa, Jalisco, México, aplicando el modelo hidrológico SWAT. Éste presentó un buen ajuste (R2 = 0,85) con la producción de agua, al ser calibrado en una de las cinco subcuencas que integran el área de estudio. Las subcuencas forestales presentan un buen estado hidrológico al permitir la infiltración del agua al suelo a través del escurrimiento subsuperficial para luego emerger como escurrimiento superficial, con poca producción de sedimentos. Las subcuencas con mayor superficie agrícola o pecuaria presentan mayor escurrimiento superficial y mayor producción de sedimentos; la evapotranspiración en las subcuencas forestales es también más elevada. La oferta total del recurso hídrico, para un año promedio, asciende a 42,963,900 m3 año-1.
