Although similar to Sicyos guatemalensis and S. parviflorus, it can be separated from them by the type and dimensions of the staminate inflorescence, partially free anthers, as well as the dimensions and other fruit features. |

Se proponen como nuevas especies a Cyclanthera jeffreyi y Sicyos dieterleae. La primera sólo ha sido recolectada en una localidad del estado de Querétaro y pertenece al grupo de especies del género con láminas no folioladas. Parece estar cercanamente relacionada con Cyclanthera dieterleana C.E. Jones & Kearns, de la cual difiere por presentar láminas herbáceo-membranáceas, ovado-triangulares, ligeramente 3-5-anguloso-lobadas, con el lóbulo central largamente acuminado-aristado, corola de color amarillo-crema e inflorescencias estaminadas conspicuamente pedunculadas. La segunda especie únicamente se conoce de unas cuantas localidades de Jalisco y Michoacán. Aunque es similar a Sicyos guatemalensis y S. parviflorus, puede separarse de ellas por el tipo y dimensiones de las inflorescencias estaminadas, la presencia de anteras parcialmente libres, así como las dimensiones y otras características morfológicas de los frutos.
