Con base en la estructura de la epidermis abaxial en vista superficial y la estructura interna vista en sección transversal de la lámina foliar, se ubican las especies estudiadas en diez grupos, uno de ellos dividido en tres subgrupos. Se encontraron diferencias sustantivas en la presencia de papilas; forma de estomas, micropelos y cuerpos de sílice; posición de los haces vasculares; presencia de una extensión adaxial de la vaina externa de los haces vasculares; distribución del esclerénquima abaxial y adaxial costal; distribución del esclerénquima abaxial intercostal; arreglo de las células buliformes e incoloras; y forma, arreglo y disposición del clorénquima, entre otras. Eragrostis obtusiflora y E. spicata son especies tan distintas entre las estudiadas que su ubicación genérica es dudosa.
