Se analizaron experimentalmente las condiciones de germinación y establecimiento de cinco especies de cactáceas del Valle de Zapotitlán Salinas (Puebla) susceptibles de ser cultivadas y comercializadas como ornamentales por campesinos de la región. Las especies estudiadas fueron Cephalocereus chrysacanthus, Cephalocereus hoppenstedtii, Ferocactus latispinus, Stenocereus stellatus y Wilcoxia viperina, todas endémicas de México y cuyos individuos juveniles son usados como plantas de ornato. Con el fin de diseñar una alternativa para el manejo conservacionista de estas especies, el objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar si los requerimientos para el establecimiento pueden cubrirse con prácticas de cultivo simples que estén dentro de las posibilidades económicas y tecnológicas de los campesinos del área.
