Se describe como especie nueva Salix aeruginosa, que crece en algunos municipios del Estado de Michoacán, en la vertiente Norte del Eje Volcánico Transversal, en cañadas húmedas con bosque de encino y encino-pino. S. aeruginosa está estrechamente relacionada con S. jaliscana Jones, sin embargo, difiere de esta última en la forma de las hojas, estípulas y frutos.
