Se estudia la vegetación y flora de una sierra de origen volcánico, localizada en el noreste de México y aislada en la Planicie Costera del Golfo de Tamaulipas. Acorde a su fisonomía y características ecológicas se describen cinco tipos de vegetación: matorral submontano, matorral de encinos, pastizal, bosque de encino y bosque deciduo templado de montaña. Las afinidades tropicales son las más importantes para la flora de toda la zona, así como para cada tipo de vegetación. Se incluye un alista florística constituida por 97 familias y 441 especies.
