This significant differences between these species are size and abundance of hairs, shape of the adult prothalia, type of rhizoids, and the early development of the young sporophyte in Thelypteris patens. |

En este trabajo se describe el desarrollo de los gametofitos de Thelypteris patens (Swartz) Small y de Thelypteris puberula (Baker) Morton var. puberula. En ambas especies la fase filamentosa consta de pocas células, formándose en breve tiempo la lámina. Los talos adultos son reniformes o cordiformes, con pelos marginales y superficiales. Los gametangios se forman a los 2-3 meses de la siembra de las esporas, son del tipo de los helechos avanzados. Las diferencias morfológicas más significativas entre las dos especies fueron: el tamaño y la cantidad de pelos, la forma del protalo adulto, los tipos de rizoides y la formación de esporofito en Thelypteris patens.
