Samenvatting:The máximum age reached by plants of Sargassum sinicola in La Paz Bay, Gulf of California, México, is of three years. Age was estimated by measuring the length of the main axis. Age structure of Sargassum sinicola at 1-2 m depth in El Cajete and Las Pacas, and in a "Profundo” (11 m) site, was dominated by plants one year oíd, or youngers. This class comprised 96.9%, 91.6% and 96.4% of the total population sampled, respectively. The reproductive strategy that S. sinicola must exhibit in order to maintain a dominant role in the community is discussed. S. sinicola must replace the great majority of individuáis in a population every year. It was found that reproduction in Sargassum sinicola was more related to plant size than to individual age.
