Out of 2071 wild species, recently recognized as members of the Phanerogamic Flora of the Valley of Mexico, 161 are introduced or probably introduced from distant regions, 522 belong to the Monocotyledoneae and 16 to the Gymnospermae. Mainly as a result of the exploratory effort, 37 undescribed species were discovered and 436 were determined as new records for the area, jointly with 75 genera and 6 families. In the present state of knowledge it can be estimated that 3 to 6% of the native flora has not yet been recorded.
Best represented families are: Compositae (18.4%), Gramineae (11.7%) and Leguminosae (6.4%). More than 80% of the species are herbaceous plants, the trees represent less than 4%, the epiphytes ca. 1%, the climbers ca. 4%, aquatics and subaquatics 8.4%, parasite and “saprophytes” 1.4%, evident succulents 5.2% and halophytes 1.3%.
In the process of the preparation of the Flora 66 authors participated, among which 6 works in foreign institutions and 45 participated as students.
Lists of novelties registered as a consequence of the preparation of the flora are included. |

Entre la información proporcionada destaca la siguiente: Dentro del conjunto de las 2071 especies silvestres recientemente reconocidas como componentes de la Flora Fanerogámica del Valle de México, 161 son introducidas o probablemente introducidas de regiones lejanas, 522 pertenecen a las monocotiledóneas y 16 a las gimnospermas. Mayormente como resultado del esfuerzo exploratorio realizado se han descubierto para la comarca 37 especies que no estaban descritas, mientras que las de nuevo registro sumaron 436, además de 75 géneros y 6 familias. En el presente estado de conocimiento se estima que aún quedan por localizarse 3 a 6% de los componentes de la flora nativa. Las familias mejor representadas son: Compositae (17.4%), Gramineae (11.7%) y Leguminosae (6.4%). Más de 80% de las especies son de tipo herbáceo, menos de 4% son árboles, alrededor de 1% corresponde a epífitas, cerca de 4% a trepadoras, 8.4% suman las acuáticas y subacuáticas, 1.4% las parásitas y “saprófitas”, 5.2% las francamente suculentas y 1.3% las halófitas. En el proceso de la preparación de la Flora intervinieron 66 autores, de los que 6 son investigadores de instituciones extranjeras y 45 realizaron su contribución en calidad de estudiantes. Se incluyen listas de las novedades registradas como resultado de la elaboración de la obra.
