Gaia:Eryngium is one of the largest and taxonomically most difficult genera of Apiaceae. It includes from 230 to 250 species, distributed chiefly in temperate tropical regions on the planet. Mexico accounts for about 60 species and there are 21 species of Eryngium in Michoacán State. These species grow in five types of vegetation but mostly in the grassland, and inside pine-oak and conifer forests. A key for species identification is included.
