Despite the knowledge of the diversity and distribution of the species of this family in Mexico, its biogeographic aspects are still unknown, fundamental for the understanding of the arrangement and evolution in the geographic space of any taxonomic group. The objective of this study was to identify and describe the distribution patterns of the Solieriaceae species in Mexico, through a Cladistic Analysis of Distribution and Endemism (PAE-CADE), to discuss the processes that have given rise to them; and based on this, provide evidence that contributes to future conservation proposals that involve these organisms.Methods: By defining quadrants of 2° latitude by 2° longitude in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, a presence/absence matrix was constructed, with which a PAE-CADE analysis was performed.Key results: Two large areas of congruence were defined: the Pacific ocean with three nested areas, and the Atlantic ocean with four nested areas; all defined by the presence of one or more restricted species. Likewise, a biotic convergence in the Pacific ocean and an area of endemism in the Campeche Bank were detected.Conclusions: It is recognized that the Mexican coasts are composed of nested congruent areas with an intrinsic biotic complexity, i.e., by areas with different affinity and biogeographic origin. However, the incorporation of phylogenetic information to this kind of study will allow it to be integrated into the evolutionary biogeographic scheme.

Antecedentes y Objetivos: Solieriaceae es una familia de algas rojas marinas muy diversa y distribuida ampliamente en zonas tropicales y templadas del mundo. En México, se encuentran 21 de las 94 especies conocidas, lo que representa 23% de la diversidad a nivel mundial. A pesar del conocimiento que se tienen sobre la diversidad y distribución de las especies de esta familia en México, aún se desconocen sus aspectos biogeográficos, fundamentales para el entendimiento del arreglo y evolución en el espacio geográfico de cualquier grupo taxonómico. El objetivo del presente estudio fue identificar y describir los patrones de distribución de las especies de Solieriaceae en México, mediante un Análisis Cladístico de Distribución y Endemismo (PAE-CADE), discutir los procesos que les han dado lugar; y a partir de ello, aportar evidencia que contribuya a futuras propuestas de conservación que involucren a estos organismos.Métodos: Mediante la definición de cuadrantes de 2° de latitud por 2° de longitud para los océanos Atlántico y Pacífico, se construyó una matriz de presencia/ausencia, a partir de la cual se realizó un análisis de PAE-CADE.Resultados clave: Se definieron dos grandes áreas de congruencia: el océano Pacífico con tres áreas anidadas, y el océano Atlántico con cuatro áreas anidadas; todas definidas por la presencia de una o más especies restringidas. Asimismo, se detectaron una zona de convergencia biótica en el océano Pacífico y un área de endemismo en la Sonda de Campeche.Conclusiones: Se reconoce que las costas mexicanas se componen por áreas de congruencia anidadas con una complejidad biótica; es decir, por áreas con diferente afinidad y origen biogeográfico. Sin embargo, la incorporación de información filogenética a este tipo de estudios permitirá integrarla dentro del esquema de la biogeografía evolutiva.
