Anatomy of the transversal section of the leaf blade and micromorphology of the lemma of the new species and M. watsoniana, which is the closest species, were observed.Key results: Muhlenbergia cristaliae is illustrated and described. This new species shares some morphological characteristics with species that possess uninervate glumes of the M. montana complex. Although the closest species is M. watsoniana, it differs with respect to the anatomy of the leaf blade and micromorphology of the lemma, among other macroscopic characteristics.Conclusions: Muhlenbergia cristaliae is considered endemic to Guerrero, without sufficient data to evaluate its conservation status for now. |

Antecedentes y Objetivos: Muhlenbergia es el género más diverso de Poaceae en México. Durante el desarrollo del estudio taxonómico del género en el estado de Guerrero, se encontró material proveniente del municipio de Chilapa que no pudo ser asignado a ninguna de las especies conocidas, por lo que en el presente trabajo se propone una nueva especie.Métodos: Se examinó el material de herbario de la nueva especie y se comparó con ejemplares de especies mexicanas de Muhlenbergiadepositados en las colecciones CHAPA, ENCB, FCME, IEB, MEXU, UAGC y UAMIZ. Se observó la anatomía del corte transversal de la lámina foliar y micromorfología de la lema de la nueva especie y de M. watsoniana, que es el taxon más cercano a la nueva especie.Resultados clave: Se describe e ilustra a M. cristaliae. La nueva especie comparte algunas características morfológicas con especies con glumas uninervadas del complejo de M. montana; aunque la más cercana es M. watsoniana, de la cual difiere en la anatomía de la lámina foliar y micromorfología de la lema, entre otras características macroscópicas.Conclusiones: Muhlenbergia cristaliae se considera endémica de Guerrero y, por el momento, sin información suficiente para evaluar su estado de conservación.
