The entomofauna is aiso divided in oblígate and facultativa ¡nquilines. Seasonal populatíon changes are described taking the mound as a unit and divídíng it in three levels. The highest abundance was found in the dry and cool season. Trophíc categories are established for the entomofauna. The shelter and food resource roles that detritus play in the area are díscussed. The known information on insects associated with Atta refuse mounds is tabulated. |

Utilizando trampas NTP-80 se analizó la entomofauna ne-cróíila establecida en un transecto altitudinal que comprende un bosque tropical a 650m snm; un bosque mesófilo de montaña muy perturbado a 1120 m; y un bosque mesófilo poco perturbado a 1550 m; ubicados entre Otongo y Tlanchinol, Hidalgo, México. Durante 1981 se obtuvieron 28 muestras mensuales formadas por 71,034 insectos, distribuidos en 58 familias de once ordenes, entre los que se destacan los Coleóptera, Diptera, Collembola e Hymenoptera; así como 11,613 Myriapoda, Arachnida y Acarida. Se considera que el 83% de estos tienen hábitos necrófilos o saprófilos de diversas categorías. En la localidad más baja los necrófilos representan el 71% de las capturas mensuales; a los 1120 m equivalen al 72% y en el bósque mesófilo alto constituyen un 82%. La temperatura y precipitación de cada localidad se relacionan con los porcentajes de abundancia y biomasa de Coleóptera y Diptera; así como con los porcentajes de predominio entre degradadores y depredadores potenciales; exponiendo los patrones fenológlcos para cada uno de estos grupos; y explicando los casos de substitución altitudinal o estacional que fueron observados. Aún cuando en la mayor parte de las muestras predominan en diversidad y abundancia los dípteros, la biomasa principal la constituyen los Coleoptera Scarabaeídae, representados por especies neotropícales como Deltochilum gibbosum sublaeve, D. mexicanum, Coprophanaeus telamón corythus y C. plato, que llegan a ser equivalentes al 70% del peso total de cada muestra (78g).
