The bioassays consisted in placing 20, early IV instar larvae of the mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus, in a plastic container with 100 ml of water with 1 ml of each dose of the extract preparations. The plants that presented the greatest larvacidal action as water and acetone extracts were anona seed (Annona squamosa L.), the huizache vine (Acacia farneciana L.), and bark from the guamuchil tree (Pithecellobium dulce Roxb.). The CL50 and CL95 of the acetone extract of A. squamosa seed was of 0.00025 and 0.00701% respectively. The vegetable oils produced a maximum mortality rate of 20% and the commercial essences produced mortality rates between 65% and 100%.

Se evaluaron 51 especies de plantas del estado de Oaxaca, México; 39 como extractos acuosos al 5 y 15% y 21 al 25%, y como extractos acetónicos tres especies con cinco dosis (0.1, 0.01, 0.001, 0.0001 y 0.00001%). Además de ocho aceites vegetales a tres dosis (0.1, 0.01 y 0.001%) y 11 esencias vegetales comerciales con cuatro dosis (0.1, 0.01, 0.001 y 0.0001%). Los bioensayos consistieron en colocar 20 larvas de cuarto estadio larval de mosquito Cx. quinquefasciatus (Say) en un vaso de plástico con 100 ml de agua y adicionar 1 ml de cada dosis de los extractos preparados. Las plantas que presentaron mayor acción larvicida como extracto acuoso y acetónico fueron la semilla de anona (Annona squamosa L.), la vaina de huizache (Acacia farneciana L.) y la corteza de guamuchil (Pithecellobium dulce Roxb.). Las CL50 y CL95 del extracto acetónico de la semilla de A. squamosa fueron de 0.00025 y 0.00701% respectivamente. Los aceites vegetales provocaron 20% de mortalidad como máxima actividad y con las esencias vegetales se registró de 65 a 100% de mortalidad.
