Resumo:In the last years the study of soil biodiversity has been emphazised. In México, however, the few papers published on this subject have been focused to several aspects other than soil functíon. As a result of several meetings hold during last years, it was possible to join several soil biologists that agreed to publish a synthesls of the current situation of some soil organisms in a special number of this journal. The selected organisms were those with management possibilities or with a key role in soil processes. In this paper we review these contributions, in the context of soil decomposition and the organisms involved.
