En un gradiente topográfico típico del Bolsón de Mapimí, compuesto por tres biotopos (ladera, bajada superior y bajada inferior) se determinó el uso de distintos microambientes que ofrece l. íridentata y la estrategia de escape de B. argentatus, tomando en cuenta la cobertura, altura y distaitcia entre arbustos de i. ¡ndontata. los resultados muestran la existencia de un patrón que no es afectado por la densidad ni por la cobertura del arbusto, ni por el sexo del chapulín. El uso del microhabitat, presentó una correspondencia directa con el alimento y la protección que le brinda el arbusto. Ambos sexos del insecto se encontraron con mayor frecuencia en microambientes ubicados en alturas superiores a los 60 cm, altura a la que el arbusto presenta la mayor concentración de follaie. Para escapar de los depredadores, B. argéntalas utiliza principalmente la estrategia de cambiar de posición dentro del mismo arbusto, ocupando sitios ubicados a la misma o a mayor altura. Esta estrategia puede presentar la variante de cambio de arbusto y ubicación ? la misma altura, cuando la distancia entre los arbustos de l. tn'deniata es pequeña. No se encontraron evidencias de territorialidad en esta especie de insecto, ya que no fueron encontradas diferencias en: i) la relación de número de individuos por arbusto, li) el uso de microambientes y iiij la posición observada sobre el arbusto entre los sexos de B argentatus.
