This work aiso provides Information on the curative and magic uses of several wild vertebrates species and about the commercial utilization of live animáis or their body parts used for hand made artisanal objects. |

El objetivo del presente trabajo fue conocer el uso que se le da a la fauna silvestre (vertebrados terrestres) en la zona de Catemaco, Región de Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz. La información fue obtenida a través de encuestas dirigidas a cazadores deportivos y restauranteros, así como mediante entrevistas informales con brujos, peleteros y comerciantes ambulantes. Como resultado de las entrevistas a los cazadores, se obtuvo una lista de especies de caza y de los sitios preferidos para el desarrollo dé esta actividad. De las encuestas realizadas en los restaurantes, se obtuvo un listado de 19 especies aprovechadas para consumo, siendo las de mayor preferencia el tepezcuintle (Agoutí paca), el armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) y las tortugas (Staurotypus tríporcatus y Trachemys scrípta). Este trabajo aporta también datos sobre los usos mágicos y curativos de varias especies de vertebrados silvestres y sobre el aprovechemiento comercial de animales vivos o sus partes en peletería artesanal.
